Jasmin Brutus

A documentary eye rooted in place.

Jasmin Brutus is a photojournalist, cameraman, and documentary filmmaker based between Sarajevo and Kuala Lumpur. Based in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he has spent more than 20 years covering stories across the Balkans and Eastern Europe, a region that continues to produce some of the most compelling and underreported human narratives of our time.

His photojournalism has taken him across the former Yugoslav states, documenting conflict aftermath, social change, and cultural identity with a visual language that is layered, respectful, and deeply rooted in place.

His editorial work has appeared in some of the world’s most respected publications, and he has contributed to a number of major domestic Bosnian newspapers and magazines throughout his career.

Brutus has received several grants and fellowships in recognition of his documentary work, including support from the Al Jazeera Balkans DOC Film Festival, the Ex-changes programme sponsored by the German government, and SEE New Perspectives, supported by World Press Photo and the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
